Mediation Services
Informal Mediation
Employee Relations office offers informal mediation between two or more parties in a conflict and is available for both full-time and part-time employees.
The informal mediation process is intended to help the parties:
- better understand each other’s viewpoints
- develop options
- articulate some informal agreed upon guidelines regarding how best to move forward.
As the internal mediator, the Employee Relations is neutral and does not adjudicate, decision-make, advocate, or determine the outcome of the mediation. Rather, the role of the Employee Relations is to facilitate communication and mutually satisfactory outcomes between the parties. Informal mediation is only possible when all parties to the mediation voluntarily agree to engage in the process.
Please contact Employee Relations for more information and to request a mediation session.
Formal Mediation
As a part of the formal employee grievance process, mediation is available for full-time employees who have filed a formal grievance. Both parties must agree to mediation. A trained mediator will be assigned and will act as a neutral facilitator to work towards a mutually satisfactory agreement between both parties. See Employee Grievance policy for grievance and mediation request deadlines.
