First Day

We have every confidence in you and your abilities. That's why we invited you onboard! We hope you feel comfortable showing up as your authentic self from day one as you prepare for classes, meet your colleagues, and arrive on campus. If we can make that easier, just let us know. We want to hear from you and help you thrive.

Check in with your supervisor about your department location and/or classroom location employee parking instructions.

General guidelines: Check with your department for specific dress code standards, and keep in mind that student-facing positions may have different dress code requirements. When in doubt, remember your audience and dress accordingly. Use your judgment! We trust you. In all cases, please know that we honor your native dress, culture and customs.

Action Items

  • Receive and review via @slcc.edu email address, the contract for all classes you are teaching
  • Review a checklist/orientation of duties and responsibilities with your Associate Dean/Department Chair
  • Connect with the Faculty Lead/Coordinator for your Department or individual programs
  • Contact Faculty Development for professional development and resources for course instruction
  • Secure a “desk copy” of the appropriate text(s) and related teaching materials
  • Request any necessary teaching supplies

You'll use your My SLCC Username to log in to various SLCC systems, like the MySLCC Portal. To set it up, go to my.slcc.edu and choose the "Retrieve Your Username" option the first time you log in, or click the link below.

The college uses Office 365 Outlook (firstname.lastname@slcc.edu) email for official communication and notifications.

Accessing Email

You will need a parking permit to park on any SLCC campus, except Meadowbrook and West Valley Center. The college uses a license plate reader technology program, which means your permit will be virtual and based on your license plate number. If you are a student employee, please use your student parking pass.

Bruin Beginnings Orientation
Your new employee orientation is called Bruin Beginnings. It's where you'll learn about college resources, employee benefits and ways to get involved at SLCC. Reach out to onboarding@slcc.edu with follow-up questions or feedback!

New Staff Essentials
Join Onboarding and Employee Experience and attend workshops created to help connect you to the college throughout your first year. You’ll be introduced to our learning culture and mission, vision, and values by identifying and focusing on your strengths and celebrating what you bring to the college.

Faculty

New Faculty Orientation and Onboarding Resource Fair
At the beginning of the fall and spring semester all faculty are invited to attend either a virtual or in-person orientation. At this event, you will receive information that will help you get ready to teach SLCC students. Watch for an email inviting you to this event.

New Faculty Cohort Program
SLCC strived to build community and create a supportive and welcoming environment during faculty's first year. This model will include a robust faculty orientation, monthly workshops throughout the first year, and a paid opportunity offering early access to online trainings, Canvas courses, and professional development.

Your OneCard is your SLCC employee identification badge. Every employee and student needs one!

Use your OneCard to:

  • Access to campus events, Lifetime Activity Center, and the Library.
  • Purchase food services, bookstore merchandise, and use mail and printing services.
  • Ride UTA Busses, Trax and FrontRunner FOR FREE. (Make sure to get your card activated for use on UTA.)
